Any anti-zionist is good in my book. It takes courage to not support israel in the west. I'll take a look at their other policies and get back to this thread.

Looks like they're exactly what it says on the tin -- socialists that support sane gun laws. Good on them!

We seek to provide a safe, inclusive, and left-leaning platform

That's such a charged statement in 2021.

The group describes itself as "working class, progressive, anarchist, socialist, communist, eco-warrior, animal liberator, anti-fascist, anti-racist, anti-capitalist, PoC, LGBTQ-plus."

Oh lord. Leftist buzzwords unite I guess.

i’ve always been tempted to join my local SRA. it seems like a great organization, and something like this is essential to building dual power. the paranoid part of me says “it’s probably an FBI honeypot” but that doesn’t seem likely.

“ Leftist buzzwords unite I guess”

that’s not what “buzzword” means. these are specific descriptors that people identify with. cry about it if you want, but if these terms stick out to you, you must be living in a bubble

(although “progressive” does seem like a meaningless term at this point).

I am reminded of the following slogans.

“Dyslexics of the world, untie!”

and

“Eggheads of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your yolks!”

FBI will totally COINTELPRO organizations like this.

"Maniac goes on shooting rampage"

Was an alleged SRA member

SRA declared a terrorist org

Also if police ever get protected status like many conservatives want, the SRA could be declared a hate group.

I'm glad that they're focused mainly on doing things to help people and pointing out how cops murder people instead of digressing into the minutiae of all these hashtags.

I do get that they're trying to appeal to a broad spectrum of left-leaning people because their actual issue (gun rights) should take precedent.

My issue is their means of targeting left-leaning people throws too wide of a net without explaining where they actually stand. Socialists and Eco-warriors don't have a lot in common, and it's hard to figure out how animal liberators would get along with people who like hunting. None of this is actually explained, and the confluence of so many labels makes it hard to figure out where the group actually stands.

I'm ok with being on one more watch list

How many do you think you're up to?

but I've already seen people in the community reminding each other that the FBI will totally COINTELPRO organizations like this.

Or social media will blacklist it and all of its members in one of their coordinated purges.

"Maniac goes on shooting rampage"; Was an alleged SRA member; SRA declared a terrorist org

There was a lot of talk in 2020 about the government cracking down on organized groups but nothing ever materialized. I think the first amendment is still safe. For the moment.

If Trump had won reelection, I have little doubt there would have been a massive crackdown on protest and certain left leaning groups, similar to Florida's anti-protest law but probably worse. If Republicans regain everything in 2024, there is still a chance it could happen.

Then on the flip side, if both the left and the right sustain pressure long enough, the Democratic party (and "moderate" Republicans) could very well adopt illiberal measures in the name of preserving the liberal order. I could especially see this happening if the left has a "January 6" moment, which isn't out of the question.
