What is everyone's view of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

Posted 10 Months ago by Lord Denida

I hear a lot of people's strong views on this, even by that, they made improvements to it. Do you want to replay it?

At least I think it is the first GTA on a Nintendo platform besides that DS game.

I hear people complaining about the 60 dollar price tag even though originally the games came out at 40+ dollars a piece. That and I think because the original Trilogy Collection (the non-remastered one) was so cheap people don't like this.

To be honest, I would be down to buy this again (even after buying the original trilogy) even at full price. The remastering is quite substantial imo, though some of the character models come off as odd.

What I don't like is Rockstar is going to remove the original trilogy of games; I am about letting people have an option to play whatever series (OG or remaster) they want. It just seems a bit silly (especially from a games preservation standpoint).

I think they already did this? (Do correct me if I am wrong lol)

Huh. Looks like they did. Welp glad I downloaded my copies a few days ago lol. I was expecting them to pull the original trilogy game from the stores around the time the remaster drops.

Smart. But isn't it still available for people who purchased it through download history?

So far it seems that way. I haven't heard any stories of the game disappearing out of a steam user's library when not installed, though I thought I heard a story a long time ago where that happened to a few steam users (though it might have be just isolated incident).

A lot of the songs on the radio are missing. Not worth the price.

not exactly optimistic about it.

Also the cinematic camera from San Andreas is gone. The local multiplayer bonus feature is gone. Some of the cheats are gone too.

Sounds like it became a light version.

Who handled the remaster? Rockstar themselves or?

It always sucks when features are removed, but I never used those things. My issue is with the music.

What's important is what that might indicate about the overall quality. When I hear that multiple features were scrapped, I immediately think "rush job". That appears to be the case here, as at least the PC version is being reported to feel rushed and stripped of flavor.

This is especially apparent since the game was pulled from PC due to being unplayably broken.

I used at elast two of them on the regular myself and I figured the music would get screwed over because muh copyright.

Definitely was a rush job. Apparently for San Andreas they just took the mobile version (which is known as the inferior port in the community) and chucked it in this.

That and they apparently used AI to upscale and "touch up" the visuals without actually checking on it. IMO, it really doesn't matter who worked on this dev-wise as Rockstar okayed this and yeeted it out the door.

It's pretty clear they knew what they were doing when they were issuing cease and desist orders to modders as well as taking down the original trilogy. Let's not forget on PC this is on the Rockstar storefront and not on steam (not really a surprise though).

Personally my stance completely changed overnight. I won't be touching this with a 10 foot pole.

The issue is Rockstar outsourced this remaster to the same Dev (Grove Street Games) that did the Mobile ports, which if you've played or seen those were not good, and most likely developed the remaster with the mobile platform in mind since those are supposed to be released later next year. Grove Street Games basically took THOSE mobile versions of the games - slapped the Unreal engine 4 on it, used an AI upscaler for most of the textures, did very little Q/A and threw it out the door. Rockstar is just as much to blame because they chose to go with those same Devs instead of doing it themselves or picking a company like Saber or Panic Button who have extensive knowledge in both Porting and Remastering games because they are too busy trying to milk GTA5 and RDR2 for all they can.

Honestly the GTA Remaster Trilogy is a simple cash grab with no real effort or care put into it from Rockstar or Grove Street Games and should be called Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Defective Edition
